Handfasting Traditions
- Many couples still choose the month of June to declare
their love with friends and family.
- Decorate the area where the handfasting or wedding is
going to take place using an abundance of white flowers to
honor the Goddess and to bring joy to the couple.
- In Greece, the mother-in-law awaited with a torch to guide
the couple safely over the threshold. She then placed the
couple before the hearth, showering them with nuts and sweets
for prosperity and fertility.
- Roman ued the symbolism of united hearts and hands. Create
a garland of elder, magnolia, and roses. Wrap the garland
around the couple's wrists for love and fidelity. Do not bind
it tightly for love should never be constraining.
- Consider a chalice from which to drink their first toast
as a great gift. In Gypsy traditions, it is believe that the
touching of the cup to their lips seals promises and links
their destiny.
- Prepare honey glazed almonds to share sweet love and
happiness with all the guests.
- Another gift, with a hint of the Roman tradition, is
making a specially prepared anointing oil to safeguard the
couple's residence. A mixture of myrrh (protection), rose
(love), and lavender (peace) would be fitting.
