Candles, Candle Holders, and
More...
You can make your own candles.
This will impregnate the candles with your personal power. There
are many kits on making candles available at craft shops. But if
you decide to buy candles instead, try to find a place that
sells handmade candles. Beewax candles are an excellent choice
although a bit expensive. However, you can buy factory-made
candles if nothing else is available. Do not worry! They work
just as well.
Make sure that your witch's cabinet is stock with at least two
candles of each color. Remember to get extra black candles
though. They are quite hard to get in some areas (except during
Halloween). Get candles of different sizes too. You might need a
big candle for a spell which requires you to light the same
candle for several days. I usually suggest that candles should
not be more than 6" high though. Some spells require that you
leave the candle until it burns out. Since many of us do not
have an hour to watch out while a candle burns out, I have found
that birthday candles are excellent for this kind of spells.
Birthday candles are available in most common colors, and they
only take 10 - 15 minutes to burn out. If it is possible, buy
candles of different shapes too. Silver candles in the shape of
the Moon make great illuminators for those Esbat rites. A pink
candle shaped as a heart can work wonders if you have love
problems.
You should also buy good candle holders. Do not use candle
holders made of wood regardless of their beauty since they are
flammable. Avoid those made of metal and porcelain too. They
transfer the heat and can cause fires. I prefer the ones made of
glass. Still, I always put some water inside them to insulate
what little heat passes.
When lighting a candle, many witches prefer to use lighters or a
smaller candle (like a birthday candle) to light it since they
believe the sulphur found in matches is not considered
compatible with nature. To extinguish the candle, do not snuffer
or wave your hand over it creating. |
