| You might have heard of dressing
or anointing candles before but you might have wondered what it
is meant by it. Basically, what you do is cleanse the candle and
consecrate it. In order to do this, you will need some type of
oil that is compatible with your magickal work. You can make
your on oils, or
you can buy them. Place a little oil in the palm of your power
hand (that is the one you write with), and rub the candle with a
twisting motion. To draw things toward you, rub the oil on the
candle in a downward motion, from the wick (or top of the
candle) to the middle. Rubbing the oil on the candle in an
upward motion, from the bottom to the wick, will repel things.
If you wish, you can chant the following while visualizing your
goal:
Candle of
power, candle of might
Create my desires here on this night.
Power, stream from this candle's fire
Bring to me my heart's desire.
Once you have done this, place
the candle in a candle holder. If you wish, you can hold your
hands on both sides of the candle and speak words of power such
as:
I cleanse and
consecrate this candle
in the name of the Goddess and the God.
May it burn in strength in the service of Light.
